Nyeri County, Kenya —
Hon. Rahab Mukami Wachira, the Woman Representative for Nyeri County, has continued her drive to improve learning environments through the donation of water tanks to schools under her Mukami Maendeleo Mashinani initiative.
The program aims to enhance access to clean and reliable water, improve sanitation, and promote good hygiene practices in learning institutions. Many schools across the county have faced challenges due to limited water supply, affecting both hygiene and feeding programs.
“Access to clean water is essential for healthy learning. These tanks will help schools maintain proper hygiene, support school meals, and reduce the burden on pupils who often walk long distances to fetch water,”
said Hon. Rahab Mukami during one of the handover ceremonies.
The water tanks will support daily school activities such as handwashing, cooking, cleaning, and rainwater harvesting. Teachers and parents have welcomed the initiative, noting that it will help improve attendance, cleanliness, and health outcomes among learners.
“We are grateful for this support. Our pupils will now have clean water within the school, which will greatly improve sanitation,” said a headteacher in Othaya Sub-county.
This donation forms part of Hon. Mukami’s broader vision to uplift education and community welfare through practical, sustainable interventions. The water tanks program complements other Mukami Maendeleo Mashinani initiatives such as sanitary towel distribution, school feeding support, and mentorship programs for girls and young women.
Through her leadership, Hon. Rahab Mukami Wachira continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to improving the quality of life for Nyeri residents — one project at a time.
